War Crimes Investigations Case Files, 1947–1948

This series consists of records relating to allegations, investigations, and reports of war crimes in which there was no trial. These generally include incidents and cases in which evidence was minimal and there was insufficient identification or other information by which to identify, apprehend, or indict a perpetrator. Also included are cases that do not relate to American nationals. Cases not developed for trial were discontinued or administratively closed after being classified as follows: 1F-1 were cases in which investigation determined only non-U.S. nationals were involved and for which information was furnished to the interested government; 1F-2 were cases involving American victims in minor incidents; 1F-3 were cases determined to be unfounded; 1F-4 were cases determined to contain insufficient evidence to support a trial; 1F-5 were cases in which the accused was dead.
